Today I bought a EP1, yay, its so much nicer than the panasonic g1 I had until I sold it. This camera is very handy, very easy to use, and amazingly take everywhere you go'able.

Buuuut I found something interesting, I got two jinfinance adapters, I bought the initial one one epay that did not focus to infinity, and then I got a second shimmed one free from them and I have that here in the states with me now, but it wont mount to the camera. Not even a little bit. Since I dont have my original here I cant say if they did anything different to the mount but yeah, wont go on the EP1 :(

Anyone else having luck/bad luck with adapters?

ps. I bought the sliver black one with the silver zoom lens.

omg, i bought an adapter from him as well, I'm still waiting for the adapter to fit on EP1! I hope it will fit on the camera.

Yeah I think so too, in the future when my credit card comes reeling back from the brink of debt I will buy another adapter.

Hi mate,

I contacted Jinfinance regards the issue with the adapter, here is his reply

thanks for the link... I was not aware of that... so thanks for letting me know..

the adapter he has is from one of our earliest batch M-G1 adapters... and currently I have no other reports that our current M-G1 adapters has problem fitting in with E-P1..

will just send out your adapter tomorrow morning... and should you have any problems of this adapter fitting with your E-P1, please let me know, and I promise will have the issue fixed...

and also can you do me a favor? can you ask 'Avotius' to get in contact with me? please ask him to email me directly at: jinrongshanghai@yahoo.com or better ask him to send me a message through ebay message...

I will work it out with him..

best,

hmm, I just ordered a bunch of adapters from him and am awaiting delivery. hopefully all will be fine (?) Sounds like he'll make things right in any case, though with the shipment time that could be a pain.

UPDATE: I got brave and took a jewelers file and filed away the inside of the mount on the adapter (the m4/3 side) and after just taking off a very very small amount the adapter fit! Maybe there is something small different in the panasonic mount and the olympus mount that would let the adapter work on one but not the other but either way it seems ok now. One thing I am wondering about though, my adapter has absolutely zero play on the olympus but had play on the panasonic before I modified it, something obviously up there. Regardless, I dont have a panasonic anymore so I dont care but FYI for the rest of you.

Anyone out there try using a panasonic lens on the ep1 yet? How are the tolerances on the mount?

ps. jinfinance has been very easy to deal with in the past, this is not meant to be a thing against them, just a heads up

"Anyone out there try using a panasonic lens on the ep1 yet? How are the tolerances on the mount?"Yes I used the 14-45mm on my E-P1 yesterday for the first time. The fit was fine, very smooth with no tolerance problems. It focuses really fast and is much quieter in AF than the 17mm Olympus lens. Steve

250swb, are you saying the E-P1 focuses faster with Panny lenses than it does with Oly lenses? That seems counter to what I've heard from other people, but I haven't seen or heard of any actual tests.

A number of people have stated that this is the case. They believe the Panny lenses have better firmware allowing them to focus faster.

Avotius, I look forward to seeing some work from you with the e-p1. Interesting to see that you got the zoom lens too - I'll be getting one with just the 17mm pancake I think..

Yes I did get the zoom lens kit because I dont get along too well with 35mm lenses and I didnt like the idea of a f2,8 prime lens so I am waiting for panasonic's 40 f1,7 which should be much nicer for me. Also because I used the Ricoh GRD so long (and got my ep1 a few days before ricoh announced their grd III go figure) that I wanted the flexablilty of a zoom this time.

It is interesting that some people have noticed that panasonic lenses focus faster. One thing I was a little surprised about is the old style rotating front element\cheap focus design of the olympus lens. The Panasonic standard zoom's front element did not rotate and the focusing was internal but the lens was a lot bigger. I also found the olympus lens flares a bit and needs a hood but its all good, for a 50 dollar lens it performs well.

When I get back from my vacation trip in a couple weeks then I will show some pictures.

that makes using polarizers on that lens a bitch, although i guess shooting in the sun with an LCD screen trying to determine the best polarization will be a bitch too.

Yes, absolutely, put a Panasonic m4/3 lens on the E-P1 and it focuses pretty well as fast as the same lens on a G1 under normal conditions. I can't think why anybody would tell you the opposite. If you go from one focus extreme to another the Pana lens will still do that 'in out' gig the Olympus lenses do, but much quicker. If it still does the 'in out' thing when focusing around a similar range its so fast I can't see it, unlike the Oly lenses that starts all over again each time you half press the shutter.I use the Rayqual (a.k.a Cameraquest) M adapter and it works on both cameras without any binding. But I'd agree there is probably some slight difference in the Panasonic and Olympus bayonets because a new Pana rear cap is very loose on an Oly lens.Steve
edited because my paragraph breaks will not show up? Very strange?
