I got a friend who wants to buy the EP1, he swooned over mine for hours last night with the Zeiss 21 mounted on it and couldnt resist. He wants an ultrawide and I suggested the Panasonic 7-14 lens as I hear people giving it rave reviews. The shop that sells such things said the Panasonic lens wont autofocus with the EP1. Any comments?

Also any comments about using the lens on the EP1 or any other camera? AF speed and what not.

Thanks

Sounds like the shop salesman was drunk. You can always bring your EP-1 and test it at the shop. If they won't let you, then probably find another shop. I've heard all kinds of crazy theories from shop salesmen. Trust me, you do know better.

I was reading on the m43forum that EP-1 auto focus is slower with the zukio lenses vs. panasonic lenses, but next firmware revision should fix that. Not sure why, maybe they are a little heavier.

trouble is the shop that sells this lens is on the other side of the country. It seems rather stupid that it would not AF on the camera though.

I tried the Pana 7-14 & the other Pana kit lens on E-P1, both of them AF better than the m4/3 lenses from Olympus. This was done while I was in Bic camera Japan.

Do the M43s lenses by Oly and Panny share the same lense mount?? eg, can you put the Oly M43s lenses on the Panny M43s lenses and vice-versa??

I'm quite excited about the 7-14 and am on a waiting list for one...if I really like it, I will probably sell my ultra-rare Pentax aspherical 15/3.5.

So, who will next throw their hat into the m4/3 optic ring? Sigma? I would love to start seeing third party lenses in this mount.

I have the 7-14mm, on the GH1. So I can only comment on the lens.
It's AF is so silent, compared to the 20mm, your almost unaware that it's focusing. It is sharp, but there is some distortion around the edges. That might be normal for a super wide lens in general. It doesn't have OIS, so that might have been something that Panasonic considered that buyers would be purchasing it for other micro four thirds - that had their own image stabilizing systems. It doesn't have a removal hood, but it's tiny, compared to EF lenses that I carry around. It does video well

If Olympus releases an E-OM1 for MFT, I will sell my GH1 and of course get the E-OM1. and keep the 20mm and the 7-14mm

I think the Panasonic Lumix MFT lenses have some amazing engineering behind them. Again highly recommend the 7-14mm
