I pretty much only shoot digital for online sales, and have all of my black and white work printed in a darkroom.

I have a need to print some photos at home, so I pulled out my Epson 3800 that hadn't been touched in 2 years, other than for 2 moves.

Without testing the nozzle check pattern, I did a power clean, and then a test print.

Perfect! I couldn't believe it. I thought I would go through the ink in the existing cartridges just to clear the thing. Now I have to test whether the ink is good enough.

Just thought I'd share my pleasant surprise.

Epson has made great strides in manufacturing printers that do not clog. I have never had a clog in my 2400's that I have used for about 6-7 years. I quit bothering to do nozzle checks many years ago.

Same with my Epson 2200 Stylus

Most ignored printer I have owned. Bought it used, sitting at PO for 6 months. Myself used occasionally. Two moves and other slow periods of time. It has been idle for months at a time.

A number of times I have put it back on the desk and used it. Replace the low cartridges (Still available at $12 eacn-pigment ink). Run clean cycle a couple of times and it comes to life, creating great prints at up to 13x19, or continuus roll up to 44 inches long. Great Pano Printer.

I suspect it will still be functional when I can no longer find cartridges, but right now Staples still carries them, and they abound on eBay.

Never a new print head in this unit. Just primes up and works.
