Loose Canon
I've been using an Epson 4990 for several years to scan medium format and 4x5 transparencies with excellent results. Recently, I thought I would try some color negative film for its greater latitude, so I shot a roll of Kodak Portra 160 in my Rollei. The negatives look fine when viewed with a 10X loupe, but I'm getting what appears to be horizontal banding as well as vertical streaking in the sky areas. I've never seen this in my transparency scans. Any suggestions?

I do not know about the banding, but the streaks look more like a development problem.

Are you doing any multi-sampling? I had this happen once or twice when I was multi-sampling. Also, vibrations can affect the quality of the scanner - If your laundry machine is going on in the other room and subtly vibrating the desk, it might cause the same issue.
