Epson R-D1 shutter lifetime.

Folks,

I'm looking at a used R-D1s and am wondering if anyone has information about the expected lifetime of the camera's shutter mechanism. How many actuations should we expect before it stops working?

I don't know for what number of releases it was constructed but I remember a thread where someone bought a used one which had 30.000 releases. Mine has more than 11.000 now and still works fine.

In the menu you can turn on/off sequential numbering. The filenames then look like _EPS01056.ERF/JPG. In this case 1056 images would have been made. But the counter recycles at 10000 images, so it could also be 11056, 21056... images like on my camera (one counter cycle at 10000 shots). So on a used one you won't be able to tell, afaik. Don't know what filenames are created if sequential numbering is turned off and if there is a way to totally reset the counter.

I think the camera uses the same type of electronic shutter found in the R3a and a lot of other cameras. It should last a very long time, but I don't think it's rated to a particular number. Even ones that are (Canon 40D: 150,000 for example) can fail well before or well after their rated number.
