Just bought one need some help from the pro's. Going on holidays wednesday to Washington D.C. if you are shooting monuments do you use infinity setting? Using the view finder no rectangle is visible for focus?
How do you know when your on? Any tricks of the trade?

Iuse the C/V 15 on the RD-1 and it's not rangefinder coupled. I've had no problems and excellent results just setting hyperfocal distance, generally about F11 in daylight. It will vignette pretty badly but if you shoot raw there's no problem correcting in PS or PSE.

If you're going to shoot architecture, then it cannot be easier -- stop the lens down to f/8 or f/11, set focus to infinity, adjust shutter speed and you're done.

I took some test shots today this lens is sweet using the viewfinder that came with the lens is much better than the camera's view finder adjust your distance and bang, sweet photo's I think this may become my prime lens?

Hey villain,

I am glad you are enjoying the R-D1. I have an assignment/challenge for you with your new lens on my old camera. I don't know if you have been to DC before or have yet seen the Vietnam War Memorial.

I haven't been there in many years myself, but will never forget the emotional response I had when walking down into that memorial. It was very powerful, and if you have not experienced it I highly recommend you to do so.

I think the 15 will give you an opportunity for some excellent photos of that memorial in particular. Anyway, I would love to see it again...

Also don't get drunk and misplace your car there like I did when I was 17. I actually flagged down a cop in desperation and he drove me around till we found it. Those were different times...
