Hi there

For all of you who may be interested I am showing a couple of frames from my newly aquired Epson Rd1s. The Canon lens is attached with a new Voigtlander adaptor and has no back-focussing issues, even wide open.

The camera cannot compete with my Canon 5D for colour and detail but when shooting RAW and converting to black and white I can't fault it for that way of shooting.

From the web image of your photo, I believe that a 35/2 cron asph would show this image a little better especially in the tree areas. Just my opinion.

Dear Ampguy

I will certainly look into the lens issue. I have found the viewfinder is very vague. Is this your experience. If you place it along a straight line you get more than you frame for.

A true 40mm like the Rokkor 40/2 is a closer fit to the RD1s than most 35s, but it really depends on the subject's distance.

I believe the RD1 has a .85 safety factor for framelines. So the actually pictures will always be bigger than what you see in the frames. Ampguy is correct, 40mm (I have the CV nokton) matches better the 35mm framelines though it is a bit tighter.

Mmm, sounds like I need a 30mm so I can use the 28 frame lines if the same applies to the 28mm finder. I find also that while the lens (Canon 35mm f/1.5 is sharp stopped donw and opened up when close, at distances of up to tenfeet and over there is noticeable drop off in sharpness. What is the make of the 35mm you recommended ampguy?

I highly recommend this lens. Do a search, as I have identified the top 10 M-mount lenses, and this is # 1 on that list.

Other lenses in this focal length work, but none have as good overall accuracy, and lack of distortion as this lens.

This lens comes in black, chrome, black paint, and possibly some other special editions. It was completely reformulated in the '90s or so, using decades of advanced technologies to improve upon the weakness of the older lenses. You can read all about the benefits of this superior lens in the Advanced Leica M book.
