I was able to get in on the recent R-D1 refurbs Epson was selling and mine came today. The camera is like new and the RF seems to be fine too so all-in-all a nice deal. They had it on the site for 1,550 and I was able to get an additional 10% with an on-line coupon so net cost was 1,395 delivered with a one year warranty. (sorry for the gloat!).

I have such a "demo" R-D1, too. Mine is/was a lemon. Check out close focus accuracy (see other thread), check ou if framelines are tilted, checkout if sensor is tilted (use B and keep button pushed). Many of these refurbished ones were samples that had to be taken back by Epson because of warranty issues.

These refurbs were on the epson US site? Holy crap. I'd gotten so tired of going to that site and seeing that dusty ol' picture of the R-D1 with the price of $2,999, like a museum piece. They have a 15% off sale at some point each year, forget when.

Hi- I just ordered a refurb as well. (Where did you get that discount code? Maybe I can still apply it as it won't ship till Monday). Did it come with original firmware or the "S" upgrade? Does it have the 1 year guarantee? Thanks....Peter

Hi _ Sorry to hear of your problems. Cab you elaborate about how to check if the sensor is tilted? And, has Epson responded by trying to rep[air or replace your unit? Thanks...Peter

Mine came in without the S upgrade but it's easy to install, and yes it has a one year warranty. I'll report back when I get my lenses in I've ordered and let you know if there are any problems.
