Epson Scanned negatives and SilkyPix

I bought the full version of SilkyPix [Developer Pro 7 or some such] a while ago as I quite liked the interface and there was what seemed a good deal. It works with my digital cameras of course, but now I'm trying to use it with my scanned negatives. It will load RAW/RAF and JPEG files from my cameras, but it will NOT load JPEGs produced by my V800.

My workaround is to open each JPEG in MS Paint, and save it. Then SilkyPix will open it fine.

I'm guessing that this is something like the file header being written by Epson Scan in a way that Silkypix doesn't like, whereas Paint corrects that.

Just wondering if anyone had come across this and might have a more satisfactory workaround.

Exactly. TIFF in my case. I never, ever scan directly to JPEGs. Jpegs are for the web. Only. Period.

I am using the Epson GT-X830 (Japan product nomenclature) along with Epson scan... You can specify different output formats.

PRINT Image Matching II JPEG (*.jpg) or TIFF (*.tif): A file format that includes PRINT Image Matching II data for enhanced quality and a wider color range. Print Image Matching II compatible printers can then print this data for brilliant, true-to-life results. (PRINT Image Matching data does not affect the way the image displays on the screen.) Available in JPEG or TIFF format.

TIFF (*.tif): A file format created for exchanging data between many programs, such as graphic and DTP software. When scanning black & white images, you can specify the Compression type.

In my case, I use Canon DPP for post processing (it's a long story)... and that program supports "Print Image Matching II" type of TIFF files.

I also recommend scanning to TIFF files rather than JPGs...

Ok, whatever it takes to make it work. You still need to output 16 bit files for editing. You can't do much with 8 bit compressed to death JPEG files.
