I just purchased an EPSON RD-1s (waiting for it to arrive) as I understood that Epson would still service it up to 30 Sept 2016.
I then decided to contact Epson UK to confirm and was surprised by their response!
- They do not provide an out of warranty service for the EPSON RD-1s.
- They will not EVEN accept receiving the camera and sending it internally for repair by EPSON Japan. If I want to use EPSON JP services, I would have to send the camera directly to them.
The information was obtained from an e-Service Support Technician from the EPSON Customer Inter@ction Centre via e-mail.
Can anybody share their own experience if this is accurate? I always considered companies to be a little bit more global than that nowadays, but EPSON seems to keep things very fragmented...
Thanks for your help. I still do not know if it will be required, but it is always good to know you can service your camera if it needs.

On 3 October 2007 Epson UK said: "In reply to your email, Epson will offer out of warranty services for as long as there is a demand. We believe products usually have a shelf life of between 5 - 10 years. Customers who have printers that are 10 years old are still able to obtain out of warranty services even if this includes fixed price upgrades to the latest models."
So that would indicate service until late 2012. Maybe we are out of luck then?

I had mine serviced by Epson Japan with help from Japan Camera Hunter. Generally it is as easy at sending it anywhere else, you send it to Bellamy and he sends it on to Epson Japan. It takes a while of course, but no issues at all.

I could very well be completely wrong here but I seem to recall that there was a Epson service centre in France for camera repairs. But I stress, it's only a vague and possibly false connection.....

Thanks for another great tip. It led me to the following link by Camera Quest:

I do not know if the information is still up to date, and will try to check. Any findings will post back to all.

I can wholeheartedly suggest japanexposures for this service. Sent it directly to them and in about 2 months had it back, fully serviced from Epson. Japan Camera Hunter users have expressed the same satisfaction and run about the same price.
I suggest you send Kurt at Japanexposures an e-mail enquiring about details.
