A few shots from the second roll of ERA 100. Developed in DD-X 1+4 for 12 minutes. In some shots the grain is a bit larger than I'd expect, but quite nice. I think these were all shot with a medium yellow filter on the lens, excepting the last. I'm happy with the results, and have stocked up on another 20 rolls to keep me going for a while. At AU$2.70 a roll, delivered, this is pretty good value compared to Ilford prices down this way.

I have to admit these were shot with an SLR  (I have unfinished rolls of HP5 in my rangefinders). The last shot was taken with a Pentax K50/1.2, and the others with a Pentax DA40/2.8 pancake, which is marketed as a digital-only lens (smaller image circle) but performs ok for 35mm at middle to smaller apertures.

I have 10 ERA to play with when I get a day off. It appears to be old school and thick.

I have practiced loading my M2 and its also on the to do list -my first Leica & collapsible summicron 50/f2 shoot..

..and I'm chuffed getting a pic sale thru tonight as well (pub/music scene magazine).

Hey, congratulations, well done! Don't forget to make sure the Summicron is fully extended and locked. :)

I like that one 2nd best. Close choice, but then I thought of Garden Shadows printed on metallic paper - I'd say its the better result.

Nice shots ChrisN!

I've also snagged a 10 pack of ERA 100 recently (at under AU$3 a roll who could argue?) and will try to remember to post some examples when the first roll has been developed.

I've also tried Lucky SHD 100 in the past but wasn't overly impressed with the range of tones nor the highlights, looking at your ERA examples though this will be a better film.

I've just received twenty rolls from Isaac Chen. Can't wait to get going with it. If I like it, I will probably order some of the 4x5, and 8x10, as well :)

I am excited that it has a "Old School Tri-X" look to it, with finer grain :)

Have loaded my first roll into a Bessa-L with 21mm..........

All,

Did you rate your film at EI 100, or did you down-rate it, say, to EI 50?

I'm going to shoot a roll today.. Right now my Bessa-L meter is set to EI 50.

sorry, i'd like to know if this film is the same sold in europe under the name of lucky.

(nice shots, by the way. i like the last one very much!)

No. Lucky is a different brand and not as good as Era. Era is partly owned by Kodak.

For pretty much all my films in strong contrasty conditions I "down-rate" by at least a stop and "pull" by development times by about 20%. Otherwise I shoot ERA100 at 100.

Like Rayt said, no not the same. I lived in Beijing for a few years and REALLY tried to like Lucky films as they were so readily available and SO cheap locally there. Just could not get it to click and often found a lot of emulsion pinholes and defects too.

Some like the Lucky films though, especially vs. ERA for 120, since ERA does not come in 120, which is a real shame.

Lucky is really old school and has its moments but I don't like the QC problems. Have you used Shanghai 120? How is that? Its a shame there is no Era in 120.

Rich - thanks for your comment. I like your flickr shots. I think I'd increase the contrast a little on many of them, but that's a personal thing and easy to manage in photoshop if required.

I'd like to hear about anyone's experience with the Shanghai 120 film, too. I've tried the Lucky SHD400 in 120 and was not impressed, for the reasons mentioned above, plus the film is so thick and stiff it is difficult to get it flat for scanning.
