New edition of Leica Compendium in August 20/06/11 15:46 A new edition of the Leica Compendium is scheduled for August 2011. It is not a reprint, but a true second edition with 610 pages, added appendix, additional pictures, updated graphs, additional text and information about the most actual products. The book has a thicker hard cover and will be wrapped in bubble bags for secure transport. The price is Euro 78.00 for the Netherlands (price includes shipment in the Netherlands) and Euro 72.50 excluding shipment cost to all other countries. The printer has assured that he can deliver early in August. It is again a limited edition.
Hmm - lessons not learned ???

Anyone else who bought the recently released version annoyed by an edited revised version coming out only a couple months later? I could give a crap about limited editions and stuff, but there are plenty enough typos and errors in it to be annoyed. Simple things that would have been caught by a spell checker.

Oh and shipping for the just-released version was hefty. The book might have only been 70 euros, but shipping to the US was 40 euros on top of that.

I think he is referring not to the recently released edition but to the previous out of print edition. It would improbable considering how slow Mr. Puts works that he could have substantially edited this new edition.

I'm also annoyed to have bought two copies of that limited edition "first draft" - one for my father, one for me. But perhaps I missed his publishing concept, it might just be a periodical.

he is referring not to the recently ..
O, he _is referring_ to the "first limited" edition. This limited edition doesn´t lack more illustrations etc... , but it needs a essential reediting (typos, references, index ....)

New edition of Leica Compendium in August 20/06/11 15:46 A new edition of the Leica Compendium is scheduled for August 2011. A reprint has been planned because of high demand that could not be met with the first print run. The additional information will cover the recently announced new products by Leica with some new tables and images and a few corrections in the text. This does expand the book to 610 pages. The new version is almost identical to the previous edition, but I have the chance to add the information about the new products (Super-Elmar-M 21mm and M9-P) now that is available. The book has a thicker hard cover and will be wrapped in bubble bags for secure transport. The price is Euro 78.00 for the Netherlands (price includes shipment in the Netherlands) and Euro 72.50 excluding shipment cost to all other countries. IMHO you can order it on these sources:
_ direct (email him)
_ Lindemanns (Stuttgart)
_ LFI (Hamburg) (concerning Kent for the old price )
_ Camerabooks (USA)

Lots of typos, but more tidbits than typos.

Doesn't surprise me. That's an indicator he still refuses to hire an editor. Which tells me that it will also be a headache to read. I meant, that would read: headache would be crisply defined as to a read telled. ;)

Quite ... As a copy-editor, I find his writing too painful to read! And as he hasn't enough professionalism and respect for his readers to get his book edited or even just proofread (which wouldn't cost a great deal), I can't be bothered to buy his book...

got mine today directly from Mr. Puts.

Very nice looking book. Looking forward to reading it :)

kudos for the great effort that went into putting together this book.

I'm sure there will be a third limited edition, so just hang in there :D

Nothing surprising :D
New edition of the Leica Compendium

There is such a demand for my Leica Compendium book that a third printing is necessary. It will become available end November 2011 and is printed in very limited numbers.

I think, I´ll buy only the jubilee editions (10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 100st)

PS: I´have seen periodicals which are appearing in a lower frequency (Jahrbücher...)

Having occasionally perused his website, I've decided that there are a great number of things that would take priority - for me - over reading a book by Erwin Puts. Driving six-inch nails through my eyeballs is one of them.
