esoteric camera gear favorites

Hi,

There was a Nikon that shot in 4:3 aspect ratio at 24 x 32mm frame size; I wouldn't mind one of those.

Regards, David

PS Equally the X100 has been superseded several times and so fits the classification. I feel so ashamed.

How about a 4x5 view camera...???
People who mostly shoot with their phones may not understand why someone would use a large seemingly awkward looking thing that uses film...

I'm often perusing the cheap stuff on the Bay of Pigs and the Tree of Gum, a lot of it I wouldn't touch with a bargepole as I'm not a masochist (think boxes, anything on 127, or instant) - if I bother to take a picture I want half a chance it'll come out. I have however quite enjoyed shooting with some 1960s fixed-lens RFs with selenium meters like the Contessamat or Olympus S and got some good pictures. I'm not sure a Pentax SLR like the Super Program is terribly hip but still does the job. I do see ads for yet another Halina 3000 (?) or Agfa Super Silette and think, you could probably take a good picture with that, if you wanted, and no-one would know or care what axe you'd used.

If you're going for awkward go all the way and shoot 11x14. 😀

7k+ on auction site that must not be named!😱

😱 exactly.

A GAF LE-S-Full auto with any M42 mount single pin lens. Also a Chinon CE-3 with winder, again full auto with any single pin M42 lens.

Braun Paxette. Just big enough to hold the film, and I can shoot it with gloves on. Perfect exposures at 20F/-6.5C.

I'm not sure anybody else runs as much film through Pilot 6 SLRs as I do...

I wonder if Roger will show up to tell me I can't take interesting photos with this camera, as well as complain how I never post any photos to prove I take photos with it...

my most esoteric must be the Ricoh GXR M paired with any of my "Pen-F" halfframe lenses converted to Leica M, specially the f1.4/40. The GXR in a way is esoteric in itself, more so with a converted Pen-F lens which is as if made for APS-C cams.
There is no adapter that could fit and to use a Pen-F lens on Leica M it's mount must be changed. The original mount covers the last few mm of the sides of the lens, removing it will expose inards on the sides of the lens. Change of mount therefore isn't all that streight forward, I have not yet encountered anyone else who has done that.
