Tempted by a deal on SD: a Panasonic LX5 (24-90mm f/2-3.3) with free $75 gift card...
.
I have the LX3 and it was my all-around camera for about 2 years. Great quality and IQ on that, it could even take quite a lot of salt water as it was drained in my work clothes when out at sea, it just always functioned. The lens is great. With the XA and LX5 you should be great for a light trip and still have good shots with 'em. Just remember spare battery and extra memory.

Yeah, the more I look at the LX5, the more I like it...fast zoom, good IQ, and its exactly the same camera as a Leica D-LUX 5 with different software from what I've read. I am a sucker for a deal haha

Get the LX5

I went around the world with one. It's the only camera you'll use, it's so good. You won't regret it.

Awesome, I am liking the LX5 more and more as a WA digital camera...
I have been wanting to trade some of my duplicate gear, and finally got around to posting at WTT here:

If someone is interested I might be able to get some new interesting gear instead of having doubles

Edit:
Sorry, I got confused between responding to different threads.
I have no experience with the LX5, but have used Olympus OM lenses adapted to a Canon Rebel 300D. Even though these are relatively tiny (for SLRs) and good quality prime lenses, it still gave a heavier kit than I was comfortable with, so I would be tempeted to take the m4/3rds camera instead.
Enjoy the trip.

... likes film again.
US$700 ? ... I would buy an Iphone4s and bring that as backup for the XA, seriously. (If you have an Iphone already or something similar then I would follow the advice to spend the money in Paris)

Will you be going alone? Or with a significant other? If alone, then by all means bring as much gear as you want. If with an s/o then a decent point-and-shoot.
I discuss this a bit here:
