I don't know if this has been posted before.

Good news for Kodak users in Europe. Some of you might have known/figured this out, but it is news to me anyway.

My local camera store said that they have gotten an official message from Kodak in Europe after all the media coverage, stating that they are unaffected by the bankruptcy of Kodak, which apparently is limited to the US company. According to the store, this means that Kodak will continue to supply film in Europe as previously.

Hurray!

... as long as supplies last. Kodak Europe stopped to manufacture film decades ago. In a larger picture they do utterly depend on the situation in the US - however, Kodak US are under Chapter 11, i.e. restructuring, not shut down, and have already stated that they will continue their film production, which they claim is profitable (of course that implies that a loss of profitability might change things).

Okay thanks for the information. It also sounded too good to be true!
I was not aware of Kodaks production setup.

Thanks again.

No, they don't stopped film production in Europe decades ago.
They stopped it 2004 - 2006 in France and England.
But there ist still the Kodak factory in Harrow, England.
There is unconfirmed information that in Harrow still RA-4 is produced.

The film production of Kodak is now in Rochester (all film types: movie film, photo film, aerial film, microfilm, archival films for movies, industrial films).
Film converting is located in Mexico.
The RA-4 production is in Denver (and maybe in harrow as well).

By the way: That the Kodak daughters in other countries outside the US are not part of chaper 11 is official. You can find details on Kodaks homepage (in the FAQ concerning chapter 11).

Cheers, Jan
