Can't believe I was so stupid, but I just bought a 135mm f/4.5 Hektor in M mount instead of LTM... What a dummy! Oh well, it was really cheap & should clean up well... Looks like this lens will wait around on the shelf until I get a real job!!!

If you have a 135mm hektor/elmar in LTM that you'd swap for one in M mount let me know.

Yes: The Victar Anastigmat 5cm F2.9

Thanks for giving me this opportunity to see if anyone out there knows what camera the Victar Anastigmat 5cm F2.9 thread mount lens is supposed to work on. I bought it on eBay for a few dollars and it has what looks like a Leica thread, and it is just a shade over 39mm on my caliper, but it will not fit LTM. It has a strange focusing cam of sorts, but it is not like the ones used on LTM.

It seems a version of this lens was made for the Kine Exakta, however that was a bayonet mount lens. The Victar optical design might be the same lens as the Ludwig Meritar 5cm F2.9 made for low-end Exa cameras.

Can any *really* good camera historians out there answer this one ?

maybe its M42? a lot of the old lenses look the same - i found this with an old Helios lens in M42, it looked like it'd fit a M39 (of course, there's 3mm difference in the thread).

I've ended up buyin a 70-200, then a 70-300mm AF/MF minolta lens. That was a mistake lol.

It took me a long while on here to work out M39/LTM and all the little abbreviations, I made sure I spent a half hour researching before I went to buy another 50mm lens for my zorki 🙂

I bought a Jupiter 12 in Contax/Kiev mount instead of LTM.

Luckily Kievs are much cheaper then Leicas, so I bought a camera for my lens 😉

Nope, it's not M42. I've been using M42 since I was 16 so I know that format well (I'm 49 now!).

One thought I had, spurred by some info in hits I found with Google, is that it might be for the Korelle Medium Format SLR. This was a British weird SLR of some type from the days of yore. I think it's thread diameter and focal length preclude this though.

Mystery Victar Lens

Here are some photos of the mysterious Victar 5cm F2.9 lens. One of the reasons I am throwing this out there is to see how good you guys are 😀

You really have to watch it on evil-Bay with accessory lenses for FSU cameras. Some outfit may have 5 or 6 consecutive notices for, say, a Jupiter 12, and you better pay attention to whether it's LTM or Kiev mount. Of course, if, like me, you have both kinds of camera, you can't go wrong!! Unless, of course, you already have a J-12 for one of them.

In any case, I can't say I've ever bought a lens with the wrong mount. That strikes me as being a little asleep at the switch.

This lens has a 40mm thread to mount on an early model Praktiflex camera.

You fill find a very nice table listing all kind of mounts for non-AF lenses here.

Thanks for the tip -- I'll check it out. The lens might even have some value in such a case, although its' desperately in need of a CLA.

I did exactly the same thing ... bought a Hektor in M when I wanted LTM. :bang: Peter

Glad I'm not the only one!!! Luckily it was a cheap oversight... The front element has a few cleaning marks, but is otherwise fairly clear. The barrel shows signs of use, but is pretty good, so overall I think I got a great deal. Now where to find a M3 for 1/2 the going price...

I have done this but deliberately - how dumb is that?

It is often hard to find the lens you REALLY want in the right condition and at the right price, so in the past I have bought a 35mm summaron in M mount although I preferred to get it in LTM (I have cameraas in both mounts) I figured that if I had the LTM one it would serve double purpose and be mountable on the M with an adapter.

But I foound the M mount one first and only a couple of years later found the LTM one. Now I have two and do not want to sell either asa I think they are both wonderful (they are the earlier and later models in 36mm and 39mm filter size.

My wife hates me ! :^)

Yessss, actually, I have a Voigtlander 40mm Nokton in the M mount, because I thought I was going to get an R3M...and may still do...but its looking like I may be stuck, for now, for economic reasons, and wiferly reasons, with the IIIf. Sell it or save it for a rainy day? I have the Nokton 50 screw mount which is a lovely, contrasty lens.
