Ever heard of the Canon 50mm f/2.2?

I've never seen this lens, and a quick Google search turns up next to nothing.
Is there anything special about it, or is it just a compromise for those who don't need f/1.8 but want more than f/2.8?

yes I have heard about it.
seems to have been offered for sale on the home market as a cheaper alternative to the 50/1.8 lens.
i always thought these first appeared around the early 1960s.

Details on the Canon Museum site. It was a "budget" lens on the later cameras. You don't often see them but not anything especially rare or unusual. Introduced 1961.

I saw one on a Canon P in a tiny camera shop in Kamakura, Japan two years ago.

Optically it's a Planar type with 5 elements, so it's probably not a bad lens
