Ever-ready cases: what color stitching ?

I 've been doing some re-stitching of LTM cases for my users, and after doing two of them, I'm curious as to what color thread was used by Leitz ?

The remains I've found in my cases ranges from off-white to gold ...

Anybody have a well=preserved original or possibly remembers the stitching color from "back in the day" ?

I use white waxed linen thread, and then use brown shoe polish on the case when I'm done, which tones down the thread.

Tedious work, but worth it.
