I just finished off my first roll of film with my first Leica. I picked up my Leica IIIc off of dcsang in the classified section. I was pretty eager to run my first roll through it, but my life isn't exciting enough to have much to shoot.
I decided to give myself an assignment. I'd shoot 1 picture every 30 minutes, no matter where I was, all day long. It was a lot of fun. I got some okay shots, and I got some awful ones.
**CLICK HERE** to see the short slideshow I made of the day. (20mb .flv- DSL/Cable Internet recommended)
It was a joy to use the IIIc. I couldn't believe how well I nailed exposure using Sunny 16. I shot on Tri-X 400 with a J8 lens (left the Elmar at home for the extra couple stops). Un-inspired scanning done by the local lab on thier Frontier machine.
Edit: Click here for Lower Quality video (4mb)
Edit 2: Click here for a gallery of the stills

I like the concept and enoyed the photograpghs.
Thank you.
However, the show took some to download (4Mb cable) and the photos were very pixellated.
Even so, very nice.

Not sure why it was so slow for you Jon. It's a 20megabyte file. The video is rendered at 640x480, if you stretch the window bigger than that you'll definetly get pixelation, but at that size it should be okay.
I just added a smaller (320x240) version which is only 4mb big. It'll stream quicker, but it sure won't be any prettier to look at.

Im on a mac and the slideshow wont work for me. Any chance you could post pics in the thread or in rff gallery?

I like the idea and the execution. Might "steal" the every 30 minutes idea for myself.
Two or three of the photos I liked very much and I really like that you included the "awful ones" along with the others. Though I might not agree with your assessment of which are which.
Thanks for sharing these.

I love that idea - I also might steal it one dayI'd shoot 1 picture every 30 minutes, no matter where I was, all day long.
But I hope you don't mind me saying that I really don't like the movie slideshow of the results - a straight gallery with decent resolution images would beat the pants off it.

And load faster - even on my T1 the load times were a bit high. Maybe your webserver doesn't like all the traffic. No problems running the slideshow on my mac tho.
Anyway - a nice idea for an assignment, and some great images in there. Nice work. (Reminds me tho, Tim Hortons still owes a mate of mine money for a contract.

pesphoto, sorry it didn't work on your Mac. I'm actually a Mac user too. I cooked the slideshow up on my PC though, and didn't test it with my Powerbook.
Personally, I'm a fan of seeing other people create slideshows. That's why I cooked this one up. I've uploaded the images to my Smugmug for those who prefer. **CLICK HERE to see the stills.
I hope that anyone who is thinking about doing the 30 minutes thing decides to post the results. I know for myself it was a challenge to post the "ugly" photos. I'm usually insanely picky about the images I share with others.

Like the others, I congtratulate you for the concept and the guts to share the results, no matter what they may be. In this case, the whole may be greater than the sum of its parts, but who knows...I may be way off base. It's an interesting look into someone's ordinary day.
Makes me wonder what someone who would accompany me on my day would get out of it. Thanks for sharing this!

Good for you, djo... it's a great idea, especially for someone [like me] who has just landed a new [to me] shooter and just wants to get out there and run some film through it. With your *every.30.minutes* method, one wouldn't have to wait for the weekend. I'll just load it up tomorrow and shoulder it wherever the day's to-do list carries me and every 1/2 hour, bang one off. At the end of the day, I've had fun and got my test roll.
Yessur, thou art a genius. (With some quite interesting photos there, BTW.

That is VERY cool. or far out, or heavy. Well, you get the photo. It looks great up there in Canada. Maybe I'll come for 336 pictures some time (24 (hours) times 2 (30 minutes) times 7 (days)).

I was wondering what happend to that camera! I was very tempted by it and then it was gone. Glad to see the 111c go to a good home. Enjoyed the photos and the theme. I need to adopt that myself. I have too many cameras around here with film in them.

Nice idea and thankyou for sharing your photo's. You've inspired me to do the same tomorrow at work (I'm a primary school teacher - and I work in a remote community). Your every 30 minutes idea is interesting because like a few others I've just got myself a new shooter but, ironically or not, I can't see anything to photograph. The other other day I actually went out and took 1 photo! It was like I've seen that, that's boring - and yet somewhere in the back of my mind I know that I'm surrounded by memorable images just waiting to happen. It'll take a week or two but I'll post tomorrow's efforts when I get them back.

☆ Here's my first *every.30.minutes* offering taken last week, the first roll in my 1930.Leica.I converted to III. I only got to 15 shots before the phone rang and I was called to situation where photo taking (or even bringing an old RF) would have been, ehhh, not a good idea.
Anyway, I decided to go ahead and 1hour process 'em and see what the little Barnack was going to need. sheeesh. Okay, there's some weird light going on, but no biggie... all is fixable. All in all, every.30.minutes is a fun idea and keeps you on your toes looking for something to shoot! After a little tweaking, I'll no doubt load another roll and give it another go.

Congrats on doing the 30 mins!
when I did it I set my cell phone to "countdown" so every 30 minutes it beeped. If I hadn't done so, I'm sure I would have missed the 30 min mark more than a few times.
Thanks for posting the pics!

Good idea there. Of course, the day I took mine, it so happens my phone was ringing every 15 minutes anyway. :bang: ☏ :bang:djorourke said:"...when I did it I set my cell phone to "countdown" so every 30 minutes it beeped."
The shot of my desk was actually taken one handed with the cell phone stuck in my ear. hmmmm... I wonder who it was and what they wanted?
