On my lens, notice how the red "aspherical " is on the left side of the lens (looking down from the top)

However, in other pictures I've seen of the CV 15mm, it's the exact opposite. The plastic ring around the frontal glass element has been rotated and the red aspherical is on the right side. Does this indicate that the lens has been taken apart and then put back in half-ass fashion? or is this simply a normal manufacture variance?

Is this worrying over nothing? No offence meant; just asking. We all sometimes tend to worry over trivialities and need a wake-up call.

Is the lens still working properly? Is it producing the images you want? Does it perform as it should be? If so, I wouldn't loose a wink of sleep over it.

Maybe it's like that upside down airplane stamp that is worth millions.....maybe you'll be able to trade that super ultra rare upside down lens for a Zeiss Distagon, and a life-time supply of cheetos.

There is often much more telling evidence of lens tampering. These are mainly due to using wrong tools to take the lens apart. Check for abrasions of screw heads, scratches near where a spanner needs to be inserted to undo the front retainer ring (that's the one just under the plastic ring with the text). From what I can tell from your picture, the lens is looking unharmed, so it appears not to be mistreated.

The fact that the aspherical text IS on a different side from other lenses merely tells that it CAN be on different sides. My guess would be that lenses are produced in batches and that the machine screwing in these rings has been filled differently between batches.

If I were you, I'd go with RML's advice. Take a couple of shots, check that they're right and don't worry about it anymore..

I'm still on my first roll of this lens. I bought this lens from the bay, and I'm not the type who usually buys lenses from Ebay. Ya know... when it's 17 deg and pitch black outside, you find things to do other than taking pictures, and sometimes, you just notice the darnest things.. I'll let you know when I get the prints back. Thanks!
