Aargh! Stop talking about how good the G1 is! It's making me want one!
I had been planning to wait to see what Olympus are bringing out next year, but the more I read about the G1 the more I'm tempted.

The viewfinder sounds OK, and I'd rather use a viewfinder than look at an LCD at arms length. Although I also like the look of the swivelling LCD - you can turn it round so the LCD won't get scratched, or is less visible - and you can use it to take pictures at odd angles where you'd not be able to look through a viewfinder without contortions, or see a fixed LCD due to limitations of viewing angle.
The Olympus prototype model didn't look like it would have a viewfinder or a swivelling LCD.

The twin lens kit covers all the bases, and if they bring out one decent 'standard' prime that would be the only other one I'd want to buy.

With adaptors you can use other lenses including the ones I have for my Bessa - and apparently manual focusing is pretty good.

It's just so tempting to get one as a Christmas present to myself!

I just had a look in the local store:

My first impressions:

It's a bit bigger than I expected, like a small (faux) SLR or a big compact.

It's fast and responsive to use, including AF

It's on the pricey side (I can get a Nikon D60 with VR kit lens for considerably less)

The EVF and screen are good, but under the shop's fluorescent light they flickered. I have no experience with 4/3rds, but I'd prefer a good SLR's viewing system. But it wouldn't be fair to compare it to let's say my Nikon D200. And of course under poor light the EVF will win hands down.

The flip out and twist option of the screen is extremely nice.

BUT

What really is ACE (as in shockingly good and well implemented) is the MF option. You have to use it to believe it. Even if the AF was totally useless (which it isn't), it would be worth to get the camera just for that. SLRs and RFs have just become obsolete. It really is that good.

I want one. But why didn't they put video in it? :bang:
