I thought this might be an interesting poll/thread: do you have a camera that is equipped with the EVS system (exposure value numbers on the aperture/shutter speed controls, either locked or not)?
Do you use it?
Do you love it or hate it, and why?

EVS was common on cameras at one point, such as the Olympus SP or Pen D. My Flexaret VII has it, and so I think does an Iskra. There are many models of Rolleiflex with it, and many of the Minolta Autocord models have it, too. I'm sure there are many others. What do you have?

I've read that it was spurned by professionals, though I don't really understand why.

I'm in the "love" camp myself (thought I'd state my bias): what about you?

This is a religious issue with many people. I am a believer in EVS. All of my Compur-shutter-ed cameras (and one Prontor-shuttered camera) have it and I wouldn't think of disabling it. I don't understand the critics of EVS.

For me it is simply quicker -- read the meter, set a single value and then spin the dial to the exposure combination that I want. When shooting outdoors I meter once at the beginning of a session, set the EV and watch the light levels throughout the shoot. If a cloud goes by and the lgiht it dims I might set one EV lower, etc. But the EV is often constant enough that I can leave it set and more quickly select an appropriate shutter speed or aperture without constantly double-checking the combination.

I've probably said too much and have lost the respect of some folks here... but I hope everyone understand that "it takes all kinds". 🙂

Well, with the Hasselbad metered prism that I use it ONLY tells me exposure values so I've got no choice but to use EVS. Otherwise, my Pentax spot-meter uses EVS so again no choice. I have no intuitive connection with the numbers but logically they make sense and the system is, all-in-all, okay.

I voted "use it and love it", but it's more like "use it and appreciate it"; I'm not wed to it. It makes sense and has its advantages. On the cameras that have it implemented, I am comfortable.
