OK everyone, I need some really good excuses for GAS, see my wife and I had a little talk about my problem and I promised to cool it. WELL, I wanted to buy my cousin an RF and I found a beautiful Canonet 19 from one of our members, who was also selling a Lynx 5000, which so happens, I really NEEDED. So I bought both. I'm dead unless you good people can give me a really good reason for my purchase. If not, it's been nice knowing you, look for my RF's on ebay under "I told him not to buy it and he did so I beat him with it" category.

sell other stuff?

Since I've started taking photos and reading RFF, I've stopped buying audio gear, and I've agreed with the better half that I must sell off stuff from "the other obsession" if I want to buy any more photo gear. Give and take, sell and buy.

I've also resolved not to check the audio forum I was on, unless it's to post a FS item.

"Darling I've had this for a while but its been at XXXX being repaired, and because its so old the parts took a long time, so thats probably why you don't remember it"

Has worked for me in the past.....Once.....

Good Luck.
Mike.

Hmmm, how about "It's for the good of your family, and all of mankind too." Just tell her that if you don't take as many pictures as possible, in as many ways (or with as many cameras) as possible, there will be less of a record of your lives for your family, and less history for the world to learn from. You never know when something historic (to you, or to the world) will happen, so you need to have a camera with you everywhere you go, and a backup device too.

Or, just tell you that you love her so much that you're still trying to find the perfect camera with which to photograph her, a photographic device to properly do her justice...

Or, since you were buying a gift for your cousin, you felt that you deserved a reward for so being such a nice guy. The only fitting reward being, of course, another RF camera.

Or do what I do and admit the truth: "I'm silly, I like buying stuff I don't need, and I have no control over my money." It works for me, because it is still my money, which perhaps isn't the case with you.

Whatever happens, good luck. Thanks for contributing! 😀

Actually. Obessive/Compulsive Disorder is classified as a disease.🙂

Play on her sympathy. She wouldn't hit a sick person. Would she?
If she'd hit him with his own protective head gear, methinks she'd hit him if he was OCD, too... Tough luck this guy has! 😉

tell her that having a creative outlet is what makes life really worth living...it provides meaning for you...to that end, ask her if she would begrudge a painter another brush, or a sculptor another chisel...

and then duck.

good luck,
chris

Thank you for all the great ideas BJ, except my money is our money, my kids could care less, she hates every picture (well almost) that I take of her and the truth HURTS! But thanks for your input.

It'll go something like this, "but sweetheart, I need this for my creative outlet..SMACK! OUCH, THAT LYNX IS REALLY HEAVY!" 🙂

I have an edge. My wife's brother's obsession is cars. He has a 1967 Mustang convertible with the 390 engine (very rare), and a 1996 BMW Z3 . Over the past five years he has had A Honda Del Sol, a BMW sedan and an older Corvette and another '67 Mustang. In comparison, my 40 old cameras make me look like Mr. Financial Conservative.

That's what I'm talking about! THAT is a great idea! Thanks Mike.

shoes might be deadly...

if dishonesty is the order of the day then deny deny deny and then accuse her of not taking an interest in your hobby as she doesn't even know how many/which cameras you have. look hurt, and walk away.

Yeah, the shoe thing is only for really desperate measures. I could try the 'hurt puppy dog thing', except I'm a little afraid to turn my back on her, gotta keep her in my sight lines.

If you were keeping the Canonet you could let her hold it just like bringing a cute stray kitty/puppy home and she might melt in your hands 😉
