I am considering acquiring a Hexanon M 28mm f/2.8 for an M camera. Have your experiences been good with this lens? Would I better off buying a Minolta 28/2.8 for a CLE (if I can find one without white spots) or saving up for the new Leica 28mm 2.8 asph? Also, could you give me some idea of what a reasonable price would be?

Thanks.

I wish I had scanned pictures to show you. Best thing is go to flickr and tag the lens - that will show you plenty of pics from this lens. I'm a Leica user with a number of Leica lenses including ASPH and I would not trade the M-Hexanon 28/2.8 for any other 28mm lens. It makes beautiful pictures and has superb build quality - better than Leica - although that is not saying too much these days. You should be able to get one for $500 on a forum, $600+ on eBay.

Just do it!

Just do it!

A. Use the search feature in the Leica M Forum and the gallery. Lots of samples and high praise from users.

B. Buy it. You'll like it.

C. Share your samples in the 28mm M-Hexanon Samples thread here in the Leica M Forum.

D. Enjoy!

I owned a lesser 28mm for decades and never used it. Since buying the 28mm M-Hexanon, it has lived on my M5 almost continuously.

Thank you all for your comments. I bought the lens today and will try it out over the weekend.
I daresay you won't regret this choice. It was the first lens I bought for my Hexar RF setup, and, over five years later, can't say enough good stufff about it. Most of my Equinox images (I'm loading them up tonight...finally) were shot with this lens.
