Hello everyone,

I just picked up a Lynx 5000 from the local thrift shop. I had to do some cleaning and resoldering, etc. but now it is in near mint condition. My initial opinion of the construction quality and lens indicate that this is a very nice Yashica model indeed. No photos developed yet though. Does anyone have any experience with the 5000? What's your take on this camera?

in short words: I love it :) although I have to solder in a new wire for one of the exposure lamps... which will be a bit of work, but that's work I love to do. The lens is great, at least for b/w. Didn;t shoot any colour film with it yet.

My lynx was the perfect carry camera until I replaced it with the Canon P. Now it's the GF's carry camera. (She takes better pics with it than I did anyway)

It really is a nice little camera. The lens is sharp and the overall construction is really great. The RF patch on mine is a bit faint, but overall, I love it. I tend not to rely on the built in meter, as much as I use it as a double check to make sure my guesstimation isn't way off the mark.

Performs very well with both BW and Color film in my copy. I may have one or two shots from it still in my gallery. I'll have to check.

edit: just one

Thanks for the feedback. I ran the first roll of film through it this weekend, Fuji Reala, and I agree with you all, the lens is fantastic. I'm very pleased. This is going to be my new "carry around town camera"!

You dont hear a lot of talk about the 5000 here, but it's a great camera. For a long while it was my choice for low light or night shooting. Love the light meter lights up in the viewfinder.
