Hey all, so i was bored and decided to test diluted HC-110 (1:125) for stand developing some 120 rolls of film i had left lying around. (1x tri-x 400, 1x t-max 400).

Here are the details:

Water at room temperature (straight from tap)
HC 110 - dilution 1:125
Initial 30 seconds agitation
Stand developed 1 hour
10 seconds agitation before disposal of developer
Wash for 1 min (running tap water)
Fixed for 5 mins (ilford chemicals)

And...i must say, i'm liking what i'm getting!

(the whites here look alittle blown, but that could be due to the intense overhead sun that i was shooting in..)

(i do like the details i'm getting in the shadow areas here though)

Anyone has experience with HC-110 stand developing? I would love to use rodinal but i can't get any locally and ordering it from overseas is alittle troublesome. I might just use HC-110 from now on..

v.nice. thanks!

Can you do a 100% crop of an image above ? I would want to check out the grain. thank you! (btw, what is your average room temperature ?)

Ray, i'll crop it when i'm back later...running late for an appointment..

The room temperature is 29 degrees celcius..

Thnks Drew, i'm surprised it worked out this well myself.

btgc, i have no experience with LC29..so i can't really comment.

Thardy, i haven't tried it with 35mm but i think i'll soon. if i do i'll stick to the same dilution and timing.

Thanks Helen! 🙂

Those are some really fine negatives. I have never used HC 110, but have often thought about trying it. Those photos really make me want to try. Thanks for showing us those.

HC-110 is really flexible stuff. I bet if you increased the dilution you can tame the contrast of the hard light even more, but as it is it looks good. Any signs of streaking or unevenness? That's the big risk in stand dev, that and enhanced grain. What was the volume of developer, how much did you use per roll? Nice job.

My 2 standard developers are Rodinol for iso100 films and HC-110 for 400 speed films.
Both are diluted 1:100. Both get 1 minute of initial agitation, Rodinol stands for 30 minutes, HC-110 gets 15sec of agitation every 3 minutes for 20 minutes.

I'm sorry for digging up an old thread, but I'm wondering if there's a place where there's a listing of timings?

If not, how do you derive the timings?

Thanks in advanced!
Jy
