taken with my father's IIIf and an Elmar 50/3.5, cheapo Kodak 100 of some sort. Growing up, all of our family vacation photos were taken with this camera; I thought it appropriate to take a "cheesey" vacation photo with it for my family.
The Mars Cheese Castle is a tourist trap in southern Wisconsin on I-94, on the way to/from summer tourist spots for us flatlanders (Illinois folk).
The photo reminds me of our seemingly endless hot, gritty family vacation road trips of the late '60's.

My avatar is me, shot with the digital Leica M8 and a Voigtlander Nokton 35 f/1.4. The summilux stayed home.
This is on the beach, next to a cemetery, at the tail end of a three week-long backpacking journey through Guatemala and Belize. Here, I am on the Belizan island of Caye Caulker, and in a couple of hours I will be on a sailboat to snorkel with sea turtles and nurse sharks. On my shoulder is my very weathered Domke F-5XB ruggedwear bag.
Fabalous journey and I met some of the most interesting people in the hostels and villages.

Many interesting stories behind these little pictures. I know many of the avatars from different threads and always had my thoughts about them, and it is stunning, how wrong I almost always was. 😉

This is a "four hole burnout." Burning human waste, with a quart of diesel fuel mixed in.
I took this shot outside the gutted apartment complex I stayed in while we were staging the siege of Fallujah, Iraq in November, 2004.
A statement on how I feel about life in general, I guess. Sometimes it could be better, sometimes it could be worse, and sometimes I could be stirring a drum of burning s**t with a piece of rebar...

The writer Raymond Chandler. I find the shot with the pipe, which I suppose is meant to look sophisticated, amusing. He was creator of the famous, fictional P.I., Phillip Marlowe.
