Exposing Eastman (Double-X) 5222 in the Leica

Well I have joined the club thanks to Leo. This film really has a certain something. I have to thank all you guys for the great info here and on the Flickr group. However, one thing I noticed with all the great info on the Flickr tags what is missing a lot of the time is what the film was rated at. I am interested in seeing what I can get from this in low light and higher iso.

My contribution is I have now found a supplier here in the UK who also sells old stock for £30 a 400ft can but will also sell fresh cans for about £80 postage etc is extra.

They are all still sealed and should be OK. I have one and tested it with no problems.

The Flickr style is quite free of what tags you give it. A lot of us will post the ratings here (specifically) in this thread and post the final product on Flickr. I wonder if a new project in the Gallery of RFF or a new thread in the film area so-calling, "Post your Best Eastman (Double-X) Pics" would help? This may give a lot of us shooting XX "The Final Results" view on the film.

If there is the chance, we could tag the project or new thread to include the criteria you mention:

Camera
Lens
Film @ ISO/ASA?
Developer/Dilution
Print method

Any thoughts?

Flickr users who develop their own film should have a look at http://dilmdev.org which is connected with Flickr. Filmdev.org includes film development recipes. The idea is that you add your own recipes for everyone to see. You can tag a few photos from Flickr for each recipe. It's free to use of course.

They don't seem to have any 5222 in the motion picture stock section at the moment. Sold out already?

On our Flickr site I do track camera/film/developer/time - speed I only indicate if it is NOT 250 iso. Most of my stuff is shot at "box" speed.
There are several good samples of other users who rate it higher. I like the look of the Diafine @ 400 and 800. Should try it one day.

jesus, just saw this thread and it made me fuzzy inside
going to contact kodak greece tomorrow, but my expectations are low

and "that's a wrap" doesn't mention any international shipping, which means it's a UK only thing
 
I buy Kodak Snap Caps, I've cleaned-out the local used camera stores, and buy them also on Ebay. Sometimes they are a bit dusty, but they clean up just fine. Used to come in boxes of ten cassettes, that's how I usually get them.

Have about a hundred and twenty Snap Caps at this point. Just be careful they don't pop-open while loading and unloading the camera.

What is Kodak Snap Caps ? I searched Ebay and found only lens caps.

I used to get the used cassette free from the local camera shop, but it is more difficult now.

I have two Leica cassettes for IIIg and only one for M. If possible , I'd like to get some more for M camera.

They appear to list as "snap cap magazines". Can't see any "live" but these are completed to give you an idea of the search terms.

To load kalt cassettes you either need a bulk loader or a darkroom. In the darkroom basically you take off 5 or so feet of film off the film reel, and wind it on the inner reel of your cassette. Then stuff the reel inside the cassette, threading a portion of the film through the slit in the cassette and snap the end on. Easy. With a bulk loader the situation is similar, except you can roll the film on during the daylight.

I watched Tom's video couple of time and practiced a lot. Finally I managed to load the film in the Leica cassette. It also took me a while to know which are for the Ltm mount and which is no good for M6 and up camera.😱

I am also interested in 5222 from UK. Please keep us update.

I have and use a bulk loader for my Tri-x.

I have 24 Kalt metal cassette. Neither my friend who gave them to me nor me know how to load the film in (stick the film in the hole) .
