Exposing Eastman (Double-X) 5222 in the Leica

I've not had any issues with film transport and 5222/5231. I use XX in my Minolta SRT's and XE-7, and Canon VT, 7, 7S, and P bodies without problems. And also my motorized Minolta SRM body. And of course, it works just fine in Leica bodies.
 
I have a question concerning 100' rolls of Double X. I am thinking about buying 4 100' rolls at $14 per roll. However, the product description states "EASTMAN DOUBLE-X Negative Film 7222 / 16 mm x 100 ft / Camera Spool / Winding B / 1R-2994". Are these rolled on normal cores that will fit in a bulk loader? The "Camera Spool / Winding B" is what concerns me. I am accustomed to bulk loading but wanted to ask those with experience before placing the order. Thanks.
 
Just got in from work and finally got around to developing some XX in D76.
1:3 at 70 degrees for 10 minutes.
Quick look at the negatives and everything came out great, nice contrast.
Will post some images in the afternoon.
 
I'm finding that 200 ISO is great for the daytime now that the days are a bit shorter but then at night it's a different story. I have a few rolls rated at 800 that I'm going to push in HC110.
So much film backlog to develop. I really should hire an intern.

I am continuing trying out the ORWO 74. Now with the D96, the "official" developer for XX. Similar to D76.
The ORWO looks pretty much like the XX, except that it is more blue sensitive. Were XX wil give you nice overall tones, including clouds with detailed separation in the grey scale - the ORWO seems to need a Yellow K2 filter to achieve it.
Leica M2, Zeiss Z Sonnar 50f1.5, ORWO 74 in D96 for 7 min.

Tom, some direct comparison pics XX and N74 shot side by side would be very interesting...

That is an interesting Q. I use Rodinal as my main soup. and I going to try 5222 in D76 1:1, because everyone seems to agree that, that is the best overall soup to use. I guess I have to soup it in Rodinal 1:50 also....

Any compare shots of the same subject, one in D76 1:1, and one in Rodinal 1:50?
 
I find that classic MQ developers seem to work best with the ORWO 74 and the XX. At the moment I am using D96 for 7 min and the result is good.
From experience over a long time I find that Rodinal/HC 110 gives it a bit rougher grain, but a bit more acutance/sharpness.
I will see if I can try it with Rodinal 1:50 for 10-11 min with added Sodium Sulphite (100 grams/1000 ml). It was something that Bill Pierce recommended years ago. It does soften up the edge of the grain and gives a bit smoother look.
Just hung up some 100 iso rolls to dry. A couple of the ORWO 54, another couple of Neopan SS and a roll of Acros. All done in D96 for 6 min. Quick look at wet negs looks good.

I found personally, ORWO N74 in Diafine isn't the hit.
Maybe a matter of taste, but large grain should be more sharp and not so mushy for me.
I like the N74 in D76 best, Xtol is also nice.
In Rodinal the grain comes less large but sharp...

ORWO UN 54 @ 100 iso D96/6 min. Nikon S3 and Nikkor 35f1.8 (2005 version). High contrast light. Looks good - should do even better in Beutler 1:1:10/7 min. I will probably get myself 1200 or 1600 ft of this for the summer. Substitute for the EK 5231 (+x). I think I can get it pretty close to the tonality and grain of that film with some more trials. I might even mix up some more Pyrocat HD for those bright, warm summer days.

ORWO UN 54 rated at 100 iso. I did run it in Beutler 1:1:10 for 7 minutes. I added an extra minute to the time as that particular Beutler set (A and B) had been sitting in the darkroom for about 3 month and, yes, it will loose some potency with storage (1/2 filled bottles).
