Exposing Eastman (Double-X) 5222 in the Leica

Thanks, BC... Just getting started. I like your image of the flowers and it reminds me to shoot some florals and vegetation in black and white.... something I never think about.just loaded an FE2 with XX today in order to use the film with the 50mm 1.8 Series E lens.

Thank you BC. I find that unless I botch the developing (I'm still struggling with agitation when using HC-110) grain will be completely acceptable up to EI1000. I put a few more on the Flickr from the same roll, incl this one which I think came out ok.

Gotta love this stuff! 🙂

I have a roll of 5222 in my F6 currently. Nothing planned but just shooting whatever is interesting around the house or if I am out. I find developing is a breeze, so yeah, I love shooting this stuff!

I hope to get some bulk film this year but rolling is another matter altogether!😱
 
I have managed to match up my preferred gear for both 5222 and Acros.

FM3a + 45 2.8 P
F6 + 50 1.4 G (saving up for that one)
M3 + 50 1.5 Summar

For Acros it is:

FM3a + 45 2.8 P
F6 + 50 1.8
M6 + Nokton 50 1.5

I really like this one. Did you overexpose by a stop by any chance? Really like the high-key look.

Also, how long do you develop in D76 1+1?

Sorry for the late reply, I've been on vacation. I don't know the exact aperture but I'm sure I metered the shadows in my back yard (with a VM II meter there is no "250" setting, so it gets set at 200) and just shoot away, in D-76 1+1 I go 10 minutes at 20C. Sorry I don't have better answer for you :/. Lots of examples on my website at various ratings, though.

Thanks for the info. I have never tried it with D76 but will do in the future. I always rate it at 400 and usually develop it in Rodinal so the look I get is quite different.

Not sure what the circular polarizer does either... but the high-key look I like a lot!

I have been buying Double-X in 35mm canisters for like $6 a roll. Getting it in 400' will be cheaper of course. How do you load 400' into 100' cores for bulk loading?

I haven't had to attempt that just yet (I have a 400 ft roll, but am still working my way through a 100 ft roll), but I'm pretty sure it was discussed in this thread a while ago. Also, I don't have any spare 100' cans to re-spool into just yet.

You can buy easier-to-manage 100 ft rolls at filmphotographyproject.com. That's where i bought my already loaded cassettes, and my first 100 ft roll. That comes out to about $4.47 a roll if you are loading 36 exp.
