What is the difference between OPD and PPD. I have seen OPD in some old formulas before.

Photographers Formulary has PPD back in stock here in the US.

Hexar RF/Zeiss Biogon/Beutler's 1:1:8

I thought I would give ol' Beutler's another go. Haven't used it in years, but I ran out of Glycin for Edwal 10, so what the heck. Not sure I like the tonality. Doesn't print easily either. Can't fault the sharpness though! Lots of grain. I don't think it is a good match for 5222.
 
Does anyone have tips on where to find small quantities of Double X in Europe? Im talking about places that accept orders of one or two 122m rolls. So far I could only find Frame24Ltd in the UK, selling such a roll for 200gbp excluding VAT. Last year I bought a roll for 175eur including VAT although not from a shop.

Just wondering if there are other European sources than Frame24Ltd, and if lucky maybe even a bit cheaper.
 
I think Ilford DDX is a good push developer for XX?? I remember Wooly Mammoth out in Hollywood CA was doing some really cool stuff at 3200 in DDX. He shot Delta 3200 and XX at 3200, depending on whether he wanted a LOT of grain (Delta 3200), or not, with XX.
 
Another older image. This is Eastman 5231 35mm Plus-X, which has an EI of about 80 (it is the original Plus-X formulation). I bought this roll fresh from Kodak, I stil have 400 feet of it (I have only shot one roll so far). I think it is more contrasty than XX.

It's a new year! But starting out awfully cold...

How about some images as a tribute to Tom?
I found a bunch of rolls of 5222, so I am itching to get out shooting.
It will take a week for me to get back up to speed shooting and developing. In the meantime, the dreary, cold winter days would go better with more photos!🙂🙂🙂

Since you can get 70 rolls from 400 feet, that is about $3.89/36 exp roll, plus the cost of the cartridge.

Preloaded HP5+ is $5.19 at B&H.

XX is still cheaper than some and in line with most films.
 
Wish to try Kodak 5222 (Double X). Can someone guide me through how to load the 400" XX into individual cartridge. As my bulk loader only takes 100ft.
 
You need to break the 400' roll down onto 100' cores or spools. I use microfilm reels, which have sides. They hold a bit more than 100', so the 4th roll is always shorter. I have a set of rewinds from a motion picture lab and a split reel that holds the 400' core that I use for the breakdown. I should get some pics of the set-up for this thread.
