I'm waiting for my new camera to be delivered today. How many extra batteries do you think I might need? I ordered one extra. Anyone have luck with third party ones that might cost less than Panasonic, or is that not recommended. Let's say I would like to use the camera all day on vacation. I guess I just wonder how will "eat" battery power. I will have a couple weeks to find out. Thanks, Joe.

Hi
I tried one of the cheap batteries from China and although they swore blind it was the correct battery it would cause the camera to stop working whilst flashing up a "wrong battery" message. They refunded my money but were more interested in not getting bad feedback on EBay.
My original battery seems to last a long time but not continual shooting all day. I must find another battery but preferably not at Panasonic prices as it's ridiculous to pay that amount of money for NO reason.

This is a timely post, since I just received a LX5 that I found on the RFF classifieds recently. The LX5 is a great little P&S. I was also balking at paying the crazy high price for a Panasonic brand battery. I found one with the brand name: Progo on Amazon, and I just ordered it today. It was only $15.90 + .99 shipping. I cannot recommend it yet because I have not used it yet. I'll follow up here after I have a chance to try it.

According to factory specs, the LX5 should get an estimated 400 shots per charge. Of course, actual shots will vary depending on how you use the camera.

Thanks Ian. I'll probably be careful. The camera just arrived and it's small. Wow! The manual says 400 shots or 200 min. So 2 batteries should be a good start. Very interested as this is the first digital over $50 I've owned. While still dedicated to film I thought I'd give traveling very light a try.
