Are people just using the Leica battery or other brands. B&H sells the CTA brand but I see that Thomas Distributing has a replacement too.
Anyone one using a non-OEM, if so is the performance good?

We had a thread on this when Sean was looking for extra batteries in a hurry. Several of us are using non-OEM brands (mine are branded "Emerging Power") but the consensus seems to be that none of these last quite as long as the Epson battery.
Most of the third-party batteries are rated 1400 or 1450 maH, while I think the Epson battery is 1600 maH; those numbers may not be exactly right, since I'm going from memory, but what it boils down to is that you get a few more shots out of the Epson battery.

I ahve had mixed results from 3rd party batteries. I think for the extra costs to Epson units are the way to go.

I have bought 2 spare batteries from EuroBattteries.com (For NP80 Li-Ion 3.6v 1300) and I am very happy with them: Practically no diference with the Epson original

I have the CTA from B&H, as well as an Optex 1000 maH in additiion to the Epson. Very unscientifically, I would say the CTA lasts about 75 per cent as long as the Epson. I definitely don't recommend the Optex; I bought it the day before going on a two-week trip, because I wanted a third battery for emergencies, and it was the cheapest I could find in Toronto (and not that cheap either -- $30 I think). It's okay for short emergencies, I guess.
jlw, the Epson is 1500 maH.
I think this is the thread jlw is referring to:

If either of these is still available, I'm interested too.

I picked some identical ones to the epson branded ones. They cost 10 euros each on ebay and last just as long....

The battery on my RD-1 says EU-85 but I can't find anything like that on eurobatteries.com, is the NP-80 compatible with the RD-1?
Thanks

IIRC, yes. I think I even saw a reference to the NP-80 batteries in the manual or somewhere on the Epson site. Maybe it was on the batteries themselves...?
