One function I like in OSX is when I type the word "Leica" in search, all of my M8 files come up at once (every file I ever created , 34,000 so far!!).

So what I would like to do is set up a special hard drive just for my M8 raw files, and type in "select all" and drag them to the new drive. I know I could just drag all of the files one at a time containing my photos, but I would like at least one drive uncluttered with just the raw photos without multiple folders in one giant volume.

I have not done this yet, but I assume I will be maxing out my new 24" iMac to crank all the info into the new drive.

Any experience in this or thoughts?

Well, you'd be dragging over all other files containing the word Leica in either name or content... In my case I have a lot of such files and folders. It would take me more work to move just the DNG files and no JPG ones, and no text files of Leica info or correspondence.

I treat each SD card as a roll of film, numbering the folder and the DNGs according to the same date-oriented filing code I use for film. When I edit the DNG files the resulting TIFFs and JPGs go into other folders in other locations. It would not be hard, just somewhat tedious, to select all the DNG folders and drag them to a different drive.

I think the Find feature can speed this up, with multiple selection of the DNG folders, and just drag them from the list to the destination. To a different drive, though, it would be a Copy operation, so you'd end up with them in both locations afterward.
