Hi,
every now and again there has been a discussion on RFF which eye people use for shooting. Usually left-eyed people seem to be pretty surprised that others actually use the right eye and vice versa. Some cameras, such as earlier Leica M's with their flash sockets, seem to be biased towards right-eyed shooters; very few others, like the Belmira, are optimized for left-eyed usage. So what eye do you usally use for photography, right or left?

Right eye. I like seeing everything with both eyes. Seems to me by using the left eye you are losing a nice aspect of rangefinders, how much you see around you.

Left eye, because if I used the right eye I couldn't get anything focused...
It must be neat to use the right eye on a rangefinder. Maybe I could get one that has autofocus.

For RF I use my right eye, but for SLRs I use my left eye - isn't that weird?! Yes, it is!

I always use both my eyes. In handheld shooting, the right one is behind the eyepiece about 70% of the time, the left about 25%, and they are both about arm's length away from the camera the other 5% of the time.

I'm in the minority most of the time.
I look into the viewfinder with my left eye.
I ride a skateboard with my right foot forward while most people ride with their left foot forward.
When I ride a bike my left foot is always forward while most people are the opposite.
Luckily I'm right handed or else it would be very odd for me to click on the shutter button.

Right eye. My left eye is bad, I couldnt focus a camera with it. My right eye is quite good.

Right eye for me. With 1:1 finders (S2, P, SBOOI) I keep both eyes open and get a "floating" brightline for framing. Very comfortable!

Left eye - my right eye is a lot weaker and I cannot focus as well. Not really a problem except for nose grease on the back of my cameras - just as well I don't shoot digital as I would forever be cleaning the lcd screen (RD1 excepted)

Apparently right or left eye dominance is constitutional and not preferential (at least in the sense that you can't choose which eye of yours will be dominant). Here's a link that has been posted before in some thread for determining whether you are right or left eye dominant.

I was actually surprised to see the results of the poll, as I thought that the statistic of right-to-left hand dominance would be reflected in the case of eye dominance. That's not the case though, or so the poll shows.
PS. I am a right eye shooter although, on occasion, I shoot with both eyes open.

Left eyed, that way I can itch my nose with my camera while shooting.

I almost always shoot with my right eye, simply because most RFs are built to make that convenient; even SLRs are a little biased that way too. It doesn't bother me to use the left, other than obscuring my right eye with the camera.
Interestingly, I tried the link on telenous' post and I got varying results. Mostly it said left-eye dominance but not every time! I wonder if there's any correlation to left/right-handedness, since I'm fairly ambidextrous...

I switched from a lifetime of left-eye shooting to right eye. As a cataract formed in my right eye, that didn't affect my shooting. But after that was fixed and the cataract in the left eye started to have more effect, I was forced to switch. After the left eye cataract was fixed, I did not switch back because the right eye turned out to have better distance focus and was thus easier for the viewfinder.
