Brough a metal lens hood for the f/0.95 today.

1/2 inch tall, expending to 86mm for may half of the lenght, flat for the rest...

Fitted a 86mm lens cap on it, but doesn't secure too easily, don't you just hate those cheap hard plastic lens cap?... :bang:

More RF blockage, but as one contributor had said before, the lens block so much of the RF, more blockage is not going to harm... :D

I've always been amazed that they made such a vestigal hood for the 50/0.95. It would work fine on a 28mm lens with the same front element size!

I suppose one that offered as much coverage as the rectangular one for the slower 50's would be just gigantic. Also, a hood that really did something would really block the viewfinder.

About the only thing that 50/0.95 hood provides is physical protection.

The Nikkor-UD 20mm F3.5 lens is also a 72mm filter size. That would be a nice short hood, and a lot cheaper. I'll bet stacking to filter rings would also help. I might try that.

The small metal band called 0.95/50mm lens hood is a strange and expensive joke. If I would use mine more frequently, or outdoors, I would look for a Nikon short telephoto or 3rd party rugged rubber hood (maybe Contax?) that fits 72mm, but not paying 250 USD for it like the last winner of an auction I was bidding on.

But the protruding glass of an 0.95/50 screams for a hood, though... a wonder that flare is acceptable without it

cheers, Frank
