Just got my F6. It's working fine. Some dust in VF and sounds a bit "gritty" on rewind as well as in film advance. Whom do you all recommend for CLA/repair in USA?

found out about Midwest Camera Repair who tells me they've never had one sent in for work. Either nobody knows about MCR, or the F6 has an extraordinary track record for freedom from malfunctions. 🙂

A couple of years ago I asked the same question of APS Camera, I was looking for a minor external part. They said that only Nikon works on the F6.

Nikon decided several years ago that only Nikon repair companies would be able to order parts. Thus, only Nikon can work on Nikon cameras. Stupid but true.

yes, but...

yes, but...

APS and MCR are authorized Nikon repair centers, so it's unclear to me how come they don't/won't/can't/aren't able to work on an F6. :bang:

The same is true of the Fuji GF670. The only ones trained to work on that camera are Fuji themselves. Likely because the number of cameras requiring work of any kind is likely low. I would suspect that this is true of the F6 as well.

Frank, your last sentence ist spot on.
Some month ago I visited one of the leading German Nikon repair shops. The owner has repaired Nikons for more than 30 years.
He told me that he has never got a F6 for repair or service in his shop. Never, not even one!
And there are quite a lot F6s in Germany, the camera is more wide spread here compared to other countries (Germans just love quality 😉).

Cheers, Jan

That may be the case in the US, but it is not true for Germany.
Independant Nikon specialists here don't have problems to order spare parts.

thanks much for your feedback. I loaded into it today the second roll of film and as I was doing that I noticed a very small area of scuffing(?) at about 3 o'clock on the shutter curtain; it looks to be immediately adjacent to the edge of the metal frame bordering the curtain on the right hand side as I look at the camera body. Is that to be expected? I have no idea how old the body is or how many rolls have been put through it.

Don't worry. Most of the extremely fast shutters with 1/8000s show some small signs like that after years of use. It is only cosmetical and does not influence the shutter function.
Two of my bodies with the fast shutters also have a very little sign on the "three o'clock position".

Skiff,

thank you very much, Skiff, Moof, Jan, et al. Very reassuring and my bank account sends along its thanks as well 🙂 I'm liking the F6 so much, I am giving serious thought to selling my 5DIII, associated Canon lenses as well to pick up a NIB F6 and a Nikkor AF lens. 😀

Enjoy your day,
