Fair price for a 1960 Elmar 50mm?

In an hour I'll have an appointment with the seller of a good-looking, late M3. If the camera is indeed in good (user) condition I'm thinking of buying for around 450-500 euro. Problem is the seller only wants to sell it together with an Elmar and a benser leather soft case and he's thinking of 650 for the lot. I already have a contemporary lux and DR cron and I'm not interested in the lens. I checked ebay , but didn't find enough details on the selling price of the old elmar. What would you do?

If in good condition, buy it. The Elmar (assuming the 2.8 version), if clean, is at least worth
EUR 200 these days. Who knows, you might actually like
it, it has a very distinct signature.

I got it! The M3 has the usual meter marks, a small ding in the top plate and some vulcanite loss of the back door. For the rest the camera functions excellently! Times appear spot on, Selftimer works smoothly, rangefinder is spotless and viewfinder is gorgeous. The Elmar looks excellent! No scratches or fungus, and clear glass. I paid 495 Euros for the lot, including a Benser soft case and a uv filter. Not really cheap, but I'm happy! The case had a copy of a newspaper article from 1990, about a repairman who serviced Leicas. The title read: "Even a Leica's manual is worth money!" 🙂

Congratulations, Huub! I think I saw this M3 on Marktplaats. Seems quite a deal for body + lens + case, certainly when CLA isn't necessary.

my 67 elmar in near mint cond, cost me 220 euro so I'd say you just got an M3 for 280 euro! great deal! If I could find one at this money I'd have one!

Blank288, Yes I got it from Marktplaats. The seller originally wanted 750 Euros. I would've been prepared to pay that if the vulcanite had been intact and the nick in the top plate wasn't there.

Sometimes u can find good deals on marktplaats, and good sellers.
Rarely, though.
I got my "fully working" marktplaats rolleiflex to really fully working condition for a whopping 260 euro. Mijnheer Klinkhamer did a good job, though. I am happy with it. Was it worth it? yes, coz i want to use it.
