The best camera is one that still works!
My mother was the photgraphic documenter when I was a kid. Did the whole lot herself ... developed film, created pretty decent prints in her darkroom and always had a camera with her on family outings. Her darkroom was right next to my bedroom so the smell of fixer definitely takes me back to my childhood.

Unfortunately Nick Waplington's homepage does not, as far as I can see, link to images in his book "Living Room", published in 1991, an extensive documentary of a family in Nottingham.
