Which famous photographers used rangefinders. 😕 I know that Diane Arbus used a Leica. I took a photo history class and I learned several others used it, but forgot their names.
Please add your knowlege about this subject.
Thanks.

Certainly can not forget Eisie- Alfred Eisenstadt, the father of modern photojournalism used Leica M cameras (though I think he also at times used Nikon F SLRs, but best known for the Leicas). I am not sure but how about Brassai.

Ralph Gibson also uses Leica M Series.

in the 20th century, a better question would be, which photographer didn't use a rangefinder cameras, and by rangefinder I take it that you mean 35mm rangefinder cameras, not rangefinder 4x5 speed graphics etc. the photographers that used 35mm (still) film probably all used rangefinder cameras at one time or an other, the 35mm slr did not really start to become popular until the late 1950s with the advent of instant return mirrors and auto stop down aperture on the lenses.

Dalí used a rangefinder; so did Picasso. Dalí and Picasso are not known for their photography, but they are famous. Dalí was, in my opinion, a far better photographer than Picasso tried to be. I think Dalí used a Kodak Retina (among a few others).

Here are some more Leica RF photographers:

André Kertész
Robert Capa
Yousuf Karsh- Leica with Nikon lenses
Fred Maroon
Jim Marshall
Joe Marvullo
Sebastiao Saldago
Robert Frank
Edward Steichen- I think

like the speculators who slowly buy and talk up a certain currency. Except, I guess, now that you've amassed a fortune that you've helped inflate, you've yet to unload it for an insane profit. 😉 But if the bottom falls out, man, I'm here. I'll take one off your hands. 😀

diane arbus didn't use a leica. she borrowed one when she started, but got a nikon f and 50/1.4. then she got a rolleiwide and mamiya c330. she borrowed and was very excited by the pentax 67 a little while before she killed herself.

This reminds me of Adam Sandler's song about the whole world being Jewish.

I used to work with Yoshi Okomoto(OAK) at Life. He was Pres. Johnson's Whitehouse photg before joining Life. He only shot Nikon RF. He was extraordinarilly protective about light shinning on his shutters. He was an excellent photographer and phiosopher.
