Quick note to let you know I finally mannaged to get some material from those rather wild events I cover that is presentable here. I uploaded 10 shots in my RFF gallery. The rest is availbale on my site under "ClubSin 2005-08-19 Collection Aeternis".

This was quite an event. The clothing and hairstyles were fabulous. I knew pretty much everybody involved with the show which was really helpfull.

Things can happen in those events that you'll never experience elsewhere. This time, since I was using an off-camera flash I needed someone to hold it for me as I was shooting everywhere in the club. I was offered a slave (not a flash...) to do the job. If all assitants could be like that! 😀

Very nice work considering the conditions that usually exist in clubs of that ... nature 😀 I've found all of your Club Sin sets to be interesting.

Nice to see the goth crowd is still the same as ever. I'm presuming you used that 35/1.7 quite a bit? Also, what film/ISO/developer combination did you use?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

William

Thanks,

I used the 35/1.7 almost exclusively. Except for two shots with the 15/4.5. I used Kodak BW400CN shot at 400 and processed normally.

Very nice shots, Marc! Love the ones in the corridor with the wide angle lens. The lighting, the doors, the clothes all make them seem scenes from a very creepy movie. I'm thinking Psycho here, or The birds, or perhaps Day of the body snatchers, or even Night of the living dead. Well, you get the genre. 🙂

A great series of captures that really seems to capture some of the atmosphere of those clubs. What a great place to be able to shoot I'm envious 😉

Interesting shots, Marc. What is a Victorian and a Lolita goth, anyway?

Victorian goths wear clothes that is inspired by the style of that era. Most of that collection was of that style. Lots of lace, velvet, brocade and such fabrics. Very elaborate and classic style.

The Lolita goths dress up like dolls or school girls (a trend from Japan). Generally short skirts and a very kiddy attitude.

Marc,

Nice shots, reminds me of going to nightclubs with friends.

Ahhh...hmm, ok, then I once dated somebody who kind of dressed like a lolita goth (but without the makeup, at least not around me!) during the weekends. It explains many many things (and perhaps my cluelessness).

How do you get to take pictures in that environment? Perhaps it's because I live in Minnesot-ah, but I always get asked "so, why do you take those pictures?" as if I had some assignment or some other "purpose"; hard for many to comprehend it's just for the "art" of it.

For the first part, well... 😉

For the second, I'm asked to be there and shoot. Most of them are friends or aquaintances. I see them pretty much every week in clubs or private parties. They are also really into arts so they understand completely. Another nice thing is that I don't even have to direct them. They take poses just like that and can even help with finding locations or lights placement. Shooting with them is so much fun. So different than shooting regular people at weddings and such!
