i have played around some with a cron 90mm asph and cron 90mm non-asph. the non-asph is a fine lens, with a great, classic rendering, but i have my heart (and wallet) set on a new asph. alas, i have been keeping an eye open since the spring for a new asph in stock at a retailer--and have not seen a single one.

I have solved my fast 85/90mm fast lens dilemma!
I had totally forgotten about an 85mm f/2 Nikkor that I have for my SP. The focus is stiff so I put it away in 2008 with intentions to get it serviced. Well, I finished a deployment to Iraq and did another one last year and I just plain forgot about it! Yikes! Talk about a senior moment!
Today it's on it's way to Pete Smith for some TLC.
I got a Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 in Contax/Yashica mount through my brother who got it in a Contax RTS kit for a song. Bought a cheap Yashica FX-D body & winder off the 'bay and it is working just fine. A bit louder than my Leica for sure but still it's a great piece of glass.
Makes a nice pair with my Nikon SP 35mm f/1.8 lens.

My only fast 90mm is permanently attached to an M3. It is a Leica APO-Summicron-M f/2 Asph. It is the sharpest telephoto lens that I have ever used. It is also the largest and heaviest of my three 90mm lenses. The other lenses are f/2.8 (M-Hex and Zeiss on G2).

...My favorite in this range is the Nikkor 8.5cm f2 in LTM. Is there a reason that you did not consider it?
Bingo! Consider it you must!
