The 35/1.4 makes a really good normal lens on a film Nikon, unless you're dead-set on using a 50mm.

Thanks for all the replies. I always shot with the 24 and 85 focal lengths back when I carried an F professionally so I never learned much about the fast 50's. The 35f1.2 Nokton is one of my favorite lenses on the M4 but 35mm lenses never did much for me on an SLR-thinking too hard to focus.

Nikon produced six versions of the 50mm f1.4 Ai-S. The final, sixth version, is best.
