Fast SD card for GXR

Is anyone using level 10 SD card on their GXR a12?

I used level 4 8GB SDHC Duracel card but RAW recording was really slow, I could see improvement with level 6 4GB SDHC Extreme card.

Would there be further improvement with level 10 cards?

Not directly related, but I'm shooting with a Class 10 on my GRDIV. There's a 2 sec. delay with shooting RAW. On continuous mode, I can fire off 5 shots before the buffer fills up. Does this help in any way?

Also, Class 10 cards are fairly inexpensive these days. $10-15 USD for a 8GB.

I'm using UHS-1 cards, faster than a class 10, mostly because I also use the same SDHC cards in cameras that can work the cards at full rated speed. Sandisk Ultra Extreme Pro, 45mb/s, 8GB. Is it faster than what a class 10 card would deliver? I just don't know.

368 Raw+Normal JPG images per card; 336 Raw+Fine JPG; 425 Raw only.

I guess it worth trying faster cards than, there was noticeable difference between level 4 and level 6 card when viewing a capture right after it was shot.

Right now, the shot-to-shot delay for RAW is the single biggest thing keeping me away from this camera. It's okay with the GRD series, but here...

I've honestly never noticed the buffer problems as I shoot quite deliberately with this camera. I just did a test though and I can get off 4 continuous shots before hitting the buffer. And then it takes 7 - 8 seconds to clear the buffer.

This is when using an 8 GB Sandisk Extreme 30 mb/s class 10 card. I use the same brand and speed card, but 16 GB in a NEX 5n. It also hits the buffer after 4 shots, but then takes a shot about once a second (as opposed to the GXR which locks up completely until the buffer is cleared). I've never had any issue shooting HD video with this card though.

Would be curious to see if a 95 mb/s UHS card made any difference. But as I stated earlier, other than running these tests, I've never had any issues with buffer limitations because of the way I shoot.

95 mbs cards behave the same as the plain "extreme" cards although the write speeds are marginally better. Probably won't matter either way. I've read that the 95 mbs cards are overkill for the gxr.

Wow, so a longer lockup than I am getting with a Class 10!

Seems like it's not much of a SD card problem then.

With my aforementioned 45mb/s UHS-1 card, I get 4 frames and then a 10 - 11 "one thousand and one, one thousand and two" said quickly delay before I'm able to do another burst on Continuous.

One thing I noticed is that the frame to frame time lag is shorter on Continuous when you have RAW only turned on. Think Sniker-Sniker-Sniker-Sniker instead of Sniker-a-uh-Sniker-a-uh-Sniker.... etc.

Same here -- around 11 seconds for 4 raw files. Not too bad, but not blazing by any standard.

This is weird, -- using an Eye-fi x2 card (class 6) the raw file writes take only 8 seconds, as opposed to the 11 seconds for the UHS-1 card. That can't be right?

After a few quick attempts, the GXR is a bit faster with the class 6 card. :C
