I did Mardi Gras in New Orleans back in '62 and '63. Those were the days when police were tolerant of drunks, drugs did not kill you, and penicillin cured everything. I decided to remember how good I now thought it was and never return to modern day reality.
My sister and I went to Cajun Mardi Gras down in real Cajun country about 5 years ago. It is highly recommended. We met a guy on some back road who invited us to his "family party at their house". That was a series of major understatements. Very big house. Huge farm. Enough people that the Travel Channel came to photograph it.
