Faulty LTM to M adapter or Camera?

Hello everyone,

I ordered a cheap ltm to m adapter from Great Britain to go along with my Voigtlander Bessa R2 that just came in the mail.

When I look at the adapter and compare it to the auction I bought it from it doesnt match, the adapter is missing a little notch with holes on either side. When I mount my industar-61ld on the Bessa it doesnt want to lock in place. Is it because of the adapter or might it be something with the Bessa?

I only have this one adapter and one ltm lens, so testing the camera with a M mount lens is out of the question.

Welcome to RFF. I can't be sure from the photos but I suspect the adapter is not right. The system to use the screw mount lenses on M mount is wonderful but it requires the adapter to be of high precision. A low cost adapter is a gamble, it may or may not be good. The Leica or Voigtlander adapters work well and are a good investment. Good Luck. Joe

Hi Joe,

I know its hard to see but I am hopen that the missing notch and indents are the cause of the adapter not locking correctly to the camera.

Either way we have a replacement adapter coming in. Hopefully this will solve the problem, if not then im going to have the camera serviced.

Hi,

Welcome aboard; the notch is important but ought to be a simple matter to cut into the adapter: probably missed by the maker. Easily done, I'm afraid but it should have been noticed before being sent to you.

Perhaps someone will read this and offer to do it for you as you really need a pukka one to get the positioning right.

I don't have one handy, but I think it's the wider notch in the larger flange, at about 1:00 in your photos, rather than the one you're pointing at that latches the mount onto the camera. Look at your camera body, there should be a little protruding bar next to the lens release button, that engages a slot in the lens mount. This is all out where you can see it and see how it should operate. If the mating notch in your mount is too narrow, or in the wrong location, or not deep enough, it could result in a failure to latch up. It might be fixable with a small file.

Will this help?

Although a cheap brass one it's from a set that work that I use on my ex USSR lenses. It's resting on a Leica rear lens cap to show the three lugs on the cap for unscrewing the adapter; meaning they act like a peg spanner. A good reason to have one and they are cheap as they often fain when the inner grey part splits.
