What is your favorite camera name? There are numerous examples of lovely camera names, mostly from the distant past. Today you have names like D800 or X-M1. In the past there were interesting names like Box Tengor and Welta Weltini. I think the change has something to do with photography moving from the realm of a sometimes uncertain art to todays certain technology.

What is your favorite camera name; not favorite camera, but camera name?

Wouldn't that have to do with what cameras you like? If so, in that case my favoite is the "Pen". As a long time half frame enthusiast that is a natural.

In 1959, as the original Pen was about to be introduced, one of the names considered was 'Mitchy'. Fortunately sanity prevaled and the name 'Pen' was selected for Olympus' half frame cameras.

I just hate these wretched alpha-numeric names cameras have these days (except Leica). I'm sure that even people who work for Panasonic can't recite all the various model designations. Now with the Agfa Clack, you knew exactly what you'd got!...TW

Suffix letters are another fascinating study. I've always liked the sound of YashicaMat 124G, as if their maker, decades earlier, had predicted the urban hip-hop "G" slang term referring to the $1000 "G-note."

I don't know what's wrong with D800. After all, I love my K1000. 🙂 This has been going on for a long time. After all there is a Leica II, and Leica IIIa, etc.

As for camera names, I have to vote for the Crown Graphic or the Contarex. Regal sounding names for a camera.
