Hi,
My favorite film Fuji Provia 400x doesn't look good at this one club because there are some many red lights directed at the musicians.... Is this a separate thread?

Need to go to CVS or Walgreens soon and pick up some cheap film.

Tell me your favorite drug store available film?

Since the photog has no control over the processing, I'd look for better processing, not better film. Last October, I was in SW France, and went in to my local Carrefour Mall, and bought some Kodak Gold 200 to test a lens I had a problem with. They processed the 12 exp roll and it was GORGEOUS! Got home to California and tried the same trick with CVS, UGLY!! Back to the Tri-X and home development.

I've been very pleased with fresh Walgreens' branded film. A lot of the shots in one of my RFF gallery albums were taken with it. I stock up every time they have a sale.

I am surprised that the local cvs pharmacy carries both kodak 400cn and tri-x.

Color selection is limited, just kodak gold.

I don't expect it to last.

I just bought some Fuji 200...I'll let you know what I think tomorrow as I have the first roll being processed at Walgreen's right now...so far the best I've been able to get is Kodak Gold 200 not counting Superia Reala 400 which is available at my local WalMart...I've shot the Walgreen's brand with good results...I wish I could find a single roll of 100, doesn't matter the brand, at some drugstore or supermarket anywhere!!!

I've been wondering how the UltraMax 800 would work with my cheap fast 50 Series E on the F2 at my son's karate class which is held in a big old cinderblock gymnasium with some probably 10-12 EV lighting...

BTW I recently had a discussion with the manager of my local Walgreen's who informed me that there had been some discussion in a meeting with district managers that our film lab at our store would remain open for business at least two more years (with regard to one hour processing) and that many stores nationwide have went to sending stuff out/one week film processing. The reason our store has stayed open is because the other drugstore, WalMart, and the grocery store have shifted gears away from film. I think if this happening across the country then there will probably be a lot of used C41 processing equipment coming to some market somewhere soon at perhaps affordable prices!

I personally prefer Fuji Superia 400 over Walgreens house 400. Wg's is grainy "to me", compared to Fuji..which is odd given the rumour that Wg is really rebranded Fuji.

Kodak Gold 400 "I" personally rate worse than Superia 400 and only buy when I have no choices.

As for processing..had fantastic results with Wg's and CVS in Charleston, SC recently as they had very new processing machines. Staff were lacksadaisacal. Here in WA state, Walgreens and Fred Meyer have older, nastier machines which are more prone to nasty color issues even though both have very attentive, knowledgeable staff who know photography... Go figure.

Best of luck.

Sure it isn't that one store. I've been using a local Walmart and the negs look thin with strange spots. I'm sure their chems need changing and they probably need to clean the tanks in the processor.

So, I took a roll to Dallas and tried the CVS near Dad's house. The negs look great. Skipping a comparison between frames because they could be under or over exposed, I looked at the edge of the film and gaps between frames. Same films, but they look different. So, I'm sure I was right about wally-world. I'd say something to them, but their employees know everything. :bang:
