...in each category.

I'm having trouble deciding. Please let me know which are your faves in each and why...

Low ISO:
Fuji Reala 100
Fuji Superia 200
Fuji Pro160S
Fuji Pro160C
Kodak Portra 160NC
Kodak Portra 160VC
Kodak Gold 100/200

Mid-ISO:
Fuji Pro400H
Fuji Superia XTRA 400
Kodak Portra 400VC
Kodak Portra 400UC
Kodak Portra 400NC
Kodak UltraMax 400
Kodak High Definition (What is this film? It doesn't appear to be available in the UK)

High ISO
Kodak Portra 800
Kodak UltraMax800
Fuji Pro800Z
Fuji Superia 800
Fuji Superia 1600

I'm having real difficulty deciding what to order for my trip. Presently leaning to Fuji Pro400H, Portra800 and a few rolls of either 160VC or 160S (really can't decide)...

Appreciate your opinions...

For high-iso colour I like Natura 1600 (from Megaperls or whatever their new store name is - just google megaperls).

Low iso I am with slides... fortia-sp 50 / kodachrome are the two I play with at the moment.

Enjoy your trip!

My all purpose film is Portra 160VC. For higher speed I like Fuji 400Pro. I don't use anything else for color. I choose those two for the neutral contrast.

Pro 800Z or Provia 400X are all I mostly shoot with, but I mostly shoot street so may not be the right film for you.

For scenery type shots it has to be something like Velvia or 400VC for me.

I have to say - this is pretty much my choice as well... although I've just bought a few rolls of 400UC to see what they're like.

Oh, and some Natura 1600 from Japan...

400UC has been a long time favorite. It scans well as a bonus.
I like 160NC for "normal" speed work.
A recent roll of Ektar 100 has my attention though.

I find that color print film is just too likely to be processed poorly and have been disappointed by the results so I'm sticking with slide film for my color needs.

I used to use Reala as my print film of choice but now that I've switched I like Kodak Elite Chrome which used to be pretty cheap and good. I've got a roll of Provia 400 to test as well.

For low ISO color, I use Velvia 50; for high ISO color, I use Provia 400X. I don't use color negative film anymore, at least not in 35mm. I do have a box of Portra 160 in 4x5 and 8x10, though I haven't used either of them yet.

Edit: I recently "found" some Kodachrome 25, expired almost 20 years ago! I shot a roll, and hopefully will be able to get it processed. Looking forward to the results. Does anybody else shoot long-expired film, just for fun? 🙂

If I were buying film for a trip today it would be 80% Reala & 20% Fuji 1600. The 1600 is an "ok" film but it's still the best fast color out there. If I don't need the speed, then I always prefer Reala to anything else on the market. It just looks right to my eyes.
