I just got through watching "War Photographer." In one word, it is stunning. I would be interested to read about others' favourite documentaries on photography.

Thats a great one.

There is one about Ron Haviv that is just as good, but I can't remember the name right now. I have never seen it for sale unfortunately. I managed to record it off the tv on my dvr.

What else. There is Naked Planet I think it's called about Spencer Tunick, and there is one on HCB as well that is good, but annoyingly dubbed. Why they couldn't just leave the French and put subtitles I don't understand!

EDIT.. I was just looking at the DOC channel and it is called Ron Haviv: Freelance in a World at Risk. It was on this morning about 4am.

War Photographer is going to be on at 8pm tonight for anyone interested. http://www.documentarychannel.com/schedule/

Hi Marc,

my favorite is "Buena Vista Social Club", if that counts as a documentary.

Best,

Roland.

PS: how is the new lens ?

The Nachtway doco was fantastic . Keeping with the theme, Robert Capa in Love and War.

And an Australian/British co-production - Frank Hurley: The Man Who Made History.

Not a doco as such but still interesting. Interview with Tim Page, noted Vietnam War photographer, which screened on the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Channel) in 2005. You can read a transcript here - http://www.abc.net.au/talkingheads/txt/s1347417.htm

A documentry on William Eggleston was on the Sundance channel a couple of months ago that was good. He got ran out of a drug store for photographing that was funny. Also one on Helmut Newton the fashion photographer. My wife got me a 2 tape set called: The Adventure of Photography that i'm watching parts of now. Just got finished with war photographers. The next segment is on portraitists.
